In early May 2018, Malou Toft was given the award Leader of the Year 2018 by Djøf, The Danish Association for Lawyers, Economists, Political and Social Scientists for her outstanding leadership skills not only at Milestone Systems but throughout her career. For Malou, strong leadership is about asking the right questions and the ability to make the right decision at the right time.
So far, Malou’s career has had quite an international touch: She spent two of her semesters at Copenhagen Business School abroad, in the US and Australia, before she finalized her M.Sc. in Business Administration with a focus on management of innovation and business development. Since then, she’s been expatriated for global telecom operator Telenor Group in Sweden, Thailand and Myanmar. In March 2018, Malou was appointed Vice President at Milestone Systems with responsibility for the EMEA region, including sales, marketing and operations. Furthermore, Malou is now a member of Milestone Systems’ Extended Leadership Team.
In her award speech during the Djøf leadership conference, Malou emphasized the importance of a leader showing the way and the importance of creating followers in the organization.
“What I mean is; you need to stick to your strategy and core beliefs even though the road might get bumpy. Trust is crucial in the relation between the leader and her team; I’m 100% convinced that people just work best without a control regime,” says Malou Toft, and continues:
“In regard to my future career as a leader, I haven’t set specific goals. Mainly because I’ve been open to opportunities in the past, I am where I am today. My advice to other leaders or aspiring leaders is to always do the job well and stay open to walk the extra mile.”
