XProtect Matrix is released

Send commands to show live video from any camera to any PC on the network.

COPENHAGEN, Denmark, 2 September 2003

Milestone Systems, developer of the best-selling IP-based video surveillance software, has released a new product in its line of solutions: Xprotect Matrix. This solution allows operators to send commands to other network PCs, telling them to connect to chosen cameras: forcing immediate display of critical events.

Xprotect Matrix is a powerful product allowing a security system operator to view live images from any camera on the network on his own computer screen. This instant transmission of video streams anywhere on the network means faster response to security situations.

Remote screen and camera management

The flexibility of Milestone Xprotect Matrix allows it to be used for many purposes. For example, operators can control the display of cameras on computer screens even though they may be located at remote sites, ensuring which cameras the guards at other locations are watching.

Users can be working with their computers as usual, but when an event occurs on camera, the live video stream is automatically displayed on their monitor – on top of whatever applications they are currently using, displayed either in full-screen mode or in a resizable window. They can then monitor and remain constantly aware of what is happening from any cameras as an event progresses.

"In emergency situations, instant transmission of live video can prove to be vital for security," explains Henrik Friborg, co-founder and VP at Milestone Systems. "Imagine instant live video image viewing on any number of monitors when a bank teller presses an alarm or strangers enter secure areas."

Like spot monitors in a Control Room

By running the Milestone Xprotect Matrix product on the screens of several computers, a functionality equivalent to spot monitors in a Control Room can easily be achieved – without requiring any expensive matrix hardware to be installed like those needed by an analog system. The security system operator can control which cameras are shown on which computer screens by clicking on the cameras in the Xprotect Business user interface, or by clicking on a geographical map.

"This is another excellent offering in our Xprotect line of software that's been developed in response to customer demands," states John Blem, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Milestone Systems. "Xprotect is internationally leading in its advanced IP-based technology for networked video surveillance."

Add-on or Stand-alone

The images from a camera at a given computer can be remote-controlled from another computer in two ways: from within Milestone Xprotect Business software or from a web page that could show a geographical map of the customer's locations. Xprotect Matrix therefore can be purchased as an add-on to Xprotect Business - the flagship offering from Milestone Systems that is already in operation on more than 30,000 cameras worldwide - or as a stand-alone product to be run from a web interface.
