Winning Together– The Power of Partnership

This February the annual Milestone Integration Platform Symposium (MIPS) was held for the 10th consecutive time in Las Vegas. Over the last 10 years the industry has seen MIPS grow from a small manufacturer event to one of the most esteemed industry events of the year. The central theme of this year’s event was ‘Winning Together – The Power of Partnership”. MIPS 2015, as in the previous years, was action-packed and filled with exciting opportunities for our eco system partners and attendees.

This year, more than before, the focus was on the importance of building powerful partnerships and the significance of our value-adding partner ecosystem. During the event, attendees heard from different speakers on how we will be directing efforts towards focusing even more on our partners and making 2015 a partner-focused year.


What was new in 2015?

One of the keynote speakers this year was our new CSMO, Kenneth Hune Petersen, who joined the Milestone team in 2014. At the event he unveiled our plans and strategies to work in better proximity with our partners to make the open platform an even bigger reality.

There were breakout sessions, which provided an exclusive sneak peek into what Milestone has in store for the market for the rest of the year.

MIPS 2015 saw a new and solution oriented series of technology-based breakout sessions being held. Updates from Milestone’s Research and Development and the latest products and tools in Milestone Husky NVR™ series were just some of the areas of emphasis in these sessions.  The attendees got a heads up on the near term possibilities for customer-centric solutions based on the open platform technology.

But MIPS was not just about the products. The event also featured exciting new business initiatives and updates from the respective Milestone departments. The business track breakout sessions focused on support and auxiliary services, which are being introduced to help our partners take the open platform technology even further.



MIPS is not just an exhibition of Milestone’s products and technology. It is a forum for our technology partners to give the visitors a prioritized preview of their upcoming products and solutions. As MIPS is held quite early in the year, it is a good time for the industry professionals to find out what to expect from the partners during the year.

What started in 2006 as a small company event attended by 16 exhibitors, has today become one of the largest and most talked about event in the security and surveillance industry, with 48 exhibitors and 350 security professionals participating in 2014.

According to Fredrik Nilsson, General Manager, Axis Communications, ”celebrating 10 years of MIPS makes this a great time to reflect on how the market has developed since I participated at the first MIPS at Fountain Blue Hotel in Miami in 2006 IP is no longer the challenger, but rather the incumbent at least for Enterprise video surveillance system. We have also managed to educate the market that open system, partnerships, and best of breed is the best approach for the customers.” 

In 2015, we had 49 of our partners exhibiting and over 450 visitors who signed up for the 2-day event. As we wind down from the event, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our partners who exhibited or attended the event, who became an integral part of making MIPS 2015 a great success.

More storage. More features. More options

Milestone is kick-starting Q2 with new enhancements to the Milestone Husky™ Series.  The popular sleek network video recorders (NVRs), which come pre-installed with the Milestone video management software (VMS), are being launched on April 7 2015 with significant increases in internal storage, enabling longer video retention and continuous high-resolution recordings.

Additionally, the Milestone Husky™ M10 NVR, which is the entry-level solution, will now include:

-        video push capabilities from the XProtect Mobile application

-        new 4 IP channel options at  competitive price points

-        increased internal storage of up to 2TB

-        improved user interface with the option to add and edit views

-        support of up to 2600 native camera drivers

With the latest product developments, Milestone Partners can increase their selling and upselling opportunities for Milestone Husky. The integrated NVR solutions are even easier to sell and offer more options for greater customization and scalability. Moreover, the NVRs include 3-year Milestone Software Upgrade Program (SUP) and 3-year hardware warranty.

Bosch and Milestone Relationship enters Access Control Domain


Bosch Security Systems, a longstanding Milestone partner, is an industry leader in security products, solutions and services. Earlier in 2015, the Milestone Solution Certification Program certified the Bosch Access Professional Edition 3.0, which is Milestone’s confirmation of the software’s ability to work with our open-platform technology. Bosch APE is an easy-to-use and scalable access control software, developed for small and medium-size businesses with high security requirements.


Milestone Systems, the open platform video management software (VMS) manufacturer developed the XProtect® Access Control Module, which combines video with access control solutions. Bosch, at their end, has developed the APE XProtect Plugin, which makes use of the XProtect Access Control Module, combining access control systems with live and recorded video display.

This solution integration uses a consolidated interface, XProtect® Smart Client, which has dedicated features that allows easy monitoring of access events, manual control of passages and use of video recordings in evidence handling.

Some of the key benefits the integration offers are:

Real time video monitoring: By applying this solution to the surveillance system, users can get access to real time display of video from the doors or entry points in the access control system.

Quicker response times: Access requests from the different access points will pop-up in the smart client in the form of live video and actions can be taken to grant/deny access instantly.

Mobile access: With Milestone Mobile, users can access surveillance video through on the go. The mobile client allows you to get notifications when you are away, giving you the possibility to control your access points remotely.

What is a certification?

Milestone Solution Partners can submit their solutions to be certified. If the software integrations or IT infrastructure components are compatible with Milestone XProtect® video management software.

The Milestone Solution Certification for IT infrastructure components tests and evaluates third party IT framework units that are compatible with XProtect VMS. The certification verifies that the server, storage and network components meet the performance benchmark required to support Milestone VMS, and measures the maximum performance available to customers.


Case Story: Power of Partnership at NYC Marathon

Smart Wall NYC Marathon


The Challenge

For the 50,000 runners pushing the limits of their physical endurance, the finish line at the TCS New York City Marathon represents the achievement of a lifetime. For those responsible for safety, however, the very same finish line can present obstacles. The challenge was to deploy a surveillance system that covered difficult locations with tall trees that line the curvy roads disrupting a clear line-of-sight, and had the capabilities that could help the various auxiliaries like doctors, police officers, etc., on location, to be able to identify and respond to incidents quickly.


The Solution

The New York Road Runners hired a consummate team of leading security industry partners to take on the task of planning and executing security operations for the event. Security technology provider VIRSIG LLC configured and deployed a high-availability wireless network in and around Central Park. Milestone XProtect® video management software (VMS) served as the platform for live and recorded playback and the XProtect® Smart Wall was installed by VIRSIG to display up to 36 simultaneous camera views. The network consisted of the latest Sony IPELA ultra-wide, dynamic-range network surveillance cameras and TBus Ethernet transmitters to provide Network Video Technologies (NVT).


With the various technologies working together, the security team was able to monitor and know what was going on at all times. When problems occurred, better analytical tools helped identify the exact location of the event. Milestone Mobile was used from one of the locations, during an outage from one of the electric poles, to send images directly to the command center.


The Advantage

The NYC Marathon is an ideal example where the open platform technology at its best. With the open platform architecture of the Milestone VMS, it was possible to configure and deploy a network with the depth and flexibility required to deliver a reliable functionality to more people in more places.

According to Glenn Taylor, Executive Director, VIRSIG LLC, “Milestone enabled us to provide a high-availability, high-performance network along with a high-availability, high-performance video management system.” The open platform’s ability to accept a wide range of wireless devices, according to Taylor, gave the deployment far greater reach.

Milestone Hosts Very First Distributor Summit

Milestone Systems hosted the very first distributor forum on 16 and 17 March 2015. The event saw 48 participants from nearly 30 individual Milestone distributor organizations in the EMEA region, attending the two-day event. The central theme of the forum, conducted at the Milestone headquarters in Denmark, was ‘Winning Together – The Power of Partnerships’, which is also the central theme for Milestone activities throughout 2015. The theme is a validation of Milestone’s continuing commitment to our partner ecosystem.

During the event, various experts from the Milestone team addressed the audience about the possibilities and advantages of using the open platform to generate growth. “Milestone is a company based on the premise of partnerships: the energy and the dedication to work even closer with Milestone was an uplifting experience for us all at this summit,” said Thomas Lausten, Milestone Systems VP EMEA.

To celebrate our EMEA partners’ outstanding results, the following awards were handed out:

• Milestone EMEA Partnership Award 2014: Ulkem
