Firetide Wireless Infrastructure Mesh Selected by Scorpio Gold to Secure Nevada Gold Mining Operation

Wireless Mesh Network Proven Flawless in Extremely Harsh Environmental Conditions.

Firetide, Inc., the leading provider of wireless infrastructure mesh networks, today announced that Scorpio Gold Corporation (TSX-V:SGN), an emerging gold producer with operations in Esmeralda County, Nevada is using the Firetide HotPort infrastructure mesh network for video surveillance security throughout its Mineral Ridge Mine. In only five days, three technicians installed a high-performance wireless infrastructure mesh network and video surveillance system that provides seamless coverage across the entire one square mile mine. Firetide’s HotPort nodes have performed exceptionally well in the hostile environmental conditions at the mine located on top of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and the network has proven to be highly reliable.

“A wireless network was our only option to connect the IP cameras and we realized we needed a system that could handle video which operates at 12 frames per second,” said John Figart, Plant Electrician for Scorpio Gold. “Alternative wireless technologies were not able to provide the required performance that Firetide offered and would have cost significantly more to deploy and operate.”

The wireless video network at Mineral Ridge enables on site security staff to monitor video coverage of both the mining operation and each of the mines entry gates from a remote location 24x7. The network includes Firetide’s HotPort 7020 and HotView Pro network management software,Axis Communications’ IP PTZ IP video cameras in environmental enclosures to protect them against the harsh elements – dust, heat, snow - and Milestone Systems IP Video management software. Most of the mesh nodes and cameras are solar powered and have the capacity to operate for up to seven sunless days. The video security system was designed and installed by Stone Security, a leading commercial security service provider located in Utah.

Designing a reliable and high-performance wireless network for the Mineral Ridge Mine was particularly challenging and required careful selection of network equipment that would accommodate the wide-range of environmental forces. The customer’s requirements for the network is that it be capable of withstanding winds and dust that can reach up to 90 mph, high temperatures over 100°, freezing temperatures below 0°, rain, sleet, and snow.

“Scorpio Gold’s Firetide network is a great example of the performance and reliability our infrastructure mesh network technology delivers – even in challenging environments,” said Bo Larsson, CEO, Firetide. “We have several thousand customers that use our mesh technology to enable a wide range of critical applications that require both high-performance and reliability.”
