Local Company Teams with Global Leaders Optex and Milestone
DAYTON – August 2, 2013. The HawkEye Effect, a new and growing entrepreneurial company located in Dayton’s Tech Town, has joined with two global leaders in the security industry to create powerful new capabilities in detecting and tracking intruders. The company creates advanced software that integrates with Optex Redscan laser detectors and with Milestone XProtect® video management software (VMS). This powerful combination gives security personnel unprecedented abilities to respond to security threats.
The Optex Redscan laser detector uses a laser beam to sweep back and forth over a large area. An intruder will reflect some of the light back to the Redscan, which uses advanced algorithms to determine the location based on X-Y coordinates, speed, direction and size of the detected object. Because the laser beam scans an area 20 times per second that is equivalent of 20 frames per second, it can detect the movement of the intruder in real time.
When an intruder is detected, the Redscan sends the information to the Milestone XProtect VMS and triggers the appropriate security camera. The VMS shows security personnel views of the intrusion from a video camera so they can respond appropriately. With this Redscan information, the XProtect software can also trigger predefined security responses like automatically turning on exterior floodlights, sounding an alarm, and locking entry doors. Police can also be sent alerts.
The HawkEye Effect brings an important level of visualization and auto-tracking to the security system by using GPS data to create a visual representation of the facility—an actual map based on satellite or aerial photos, architectural plans, or similar. The HawkEye Effect converts the X-Y data from Redscan, assigning GPS coordinates to each target in real time. The HawkEye Effect then tasks cameras through XProtect to stay locked on the target’s GPS position. Even if the security camera’s view is compromised—by environmental conditions such as difficult lighting—the auto-tracking from The HawkEye Effect/Redscan combination shows the exact physical location of the intruder in relation to the mapped area.
