With the transition to IP-based video surveillance, security is no longer simply a facilities issue, but an IT responsibility as well. Just as telephone infrastructure became an IT responsibility with the introduction of VoIP, the IT department is now responsible for ensuring that the security system remains operational at all times, and is allocated appropriate network bandwidth, compute power, and storage resources.
To meet these challenges, IT departments need digital security and surveillance (DSS) solutions that are simple to deploy, easy to integrate with existing IT infrastructure, and highly reliable and secure. This solution must also provide excellent performance in an efficient platform that fits within the department’s physical and budgetary constraints.
Recognizing this need, Dell* OEM, Intel, Milestone Systems, AXIS Communications, and Ingram Micro have worked together to produce SecurePod, a certified DSS technology bundle and training program to help IT integrators build successful physical security practices for the long term. This article will explain how the solution meets modern surveillance needs, starting with processor performance and working up to the application and system integration level. We will also show how SecurePod leverages new Intel® Intelligent Systems Framework-ready systems to ease integration into existing IT infrastructure.
