Lincoln School in Argentina secures campus with Milestone open-platform video technology

Founded in 1936, the Lincoln School is a private, co-ed day school in Buenos Aires, Argentina. As the only international school in the country, they serve a vibrant community of more than 650 students from 50 different nationalities, which brings a unique cultural diversity. Accredited by both U.S. and Argentine educational authorities, the school serves students from early childhood through Grade 12.

A key focus has been improving campus safety to ensure a secure learning environment for students and faculty alike. The school earlier relied on CCTV, with limited coverage causing challenges for security personnel. With Milestone Systems and local partner Kron Solutions, Lincoln School implemented a video technology solution designed to address the school’s specific needs.

Challenge: legacy system failed critical security standards

Over the past five years, the Lincoln School has been investing in upgrades to its infrastructure. A key focus has been improving campus safety to ensure a secure learning environment for students and faculty alike. The school had previously relied on disparate CCTV systems with limited coverage. This consisted of several DVRs (digital video recorders), each connected to individual monitors, creating an operational challenge for security personnel.

When the school needed video evidence, cameras frequently malfunctioned, failed to record, or delivered image quality that was too poor to provide helpful information or serve as evidence. Video footage from these systems could only be viewed locally, and recorded footage was overwritten every few days. The lack of cohesive oversight made it difficult to investigate incidents, and the system's inefficiency led to higher operational costs.

Lincoln School operates as more than an educational institution—it’s a close-knit diplomatic community where security standards must meet international expectations. The campus is bordered by high-traffic streets and public walkways, presenting unique security considerations. The school's infrastructure includes primary and secondary school buildings, the administrative center "La Mansión", an auditorium, a gymnasium, a swimming pool and sports facilities, all connected by an internal pedestrian bridge that crosses public roads and railway tracks.

Solution: open platform enables comprehensive coverage

Working with local partner Kron Solutions, Lincoln School implemented a video technology solution designed to address the specific campus needs. The solution centers on Milestone Systems' XProtect Professional Plus VMS, selected for its open platform that accommodates diverse camera technologies and analytics from multiple manufacturers. The open platform enables seamless integration of best-in-class components while providing long-term scalability and cost-effective expansion capabilities.

Kron Solutions designed the comprehensive system incorporating 108 strategically positioned cameras from technology partners Illustra and Hanwha Vision, chosen for specific functionality rather than brand uniformity. The installation includes dedicated servers that create a redundant infrastructure, ensuring continuous operation and supporting future scalability for planned building expansions.

Results: operational efficiency improves over 200 percent

The new system has greatly improved both the speed and effectiveness of incident response while strongly reinforcing its utility for incident prevention. School administrators can now monitor all areas in real time and access recorded footage remotely, improving decision-making and oversight. It is designed to provide discreet support for both incident prevention and response, maintaining a careful balance that preserves the natural campus environment without creating the impression of an overly controlled or monitored setting.

The system has consistently proven its effectiveness in critical situations. The transformation delivered immediate operational improvements, with search and identification tasks that previously required four to five hours now being completed in under 40 minutes. During the last semester alone, the system helped locate 180 reported lost items, proving its value extends beyond traditional security.
