Introducing the XProtect Activity Collector
A small, read-only tool that measures how your cameras actually behave: how often they detect motion, and when. It's the first step in an initiative to improve server sizing and analytics across XProtect, using real activity data instead of lab assumptions.
What is it
A small, read-only tool you run yourself
The Activity Collector is a single file you run on a Windows machine with network access to your XProtect Management Server. It connects read-only, reads motion activity and camera configuration over a chosen time window, and writes everything to a local dashboard and CSV files next to itself. You decide if and when to share the results; nothing leaves your machine automatically.
Why we built it
Better hardware recommendations start with real data
Today, server sizing and capacity-planning tools rely on assumptions about how cameras behave. Real motion patterns vary enormously by site, vertical, and camera count, and the only way to make our recommendations accurate is to measure that variation directly, with the permission of the customers running those systems.
How it works
Five steps, entirely under your control
1. You run a single tool, locally One file, no installation. It runs on a Windows machine with network access to your XProtect server.
2. You choose the server and duration Enter your Management Server URL, pick an authentication method, and set how far back to look (default: 7 days).
3. It reads motion history, nothing else The tool connects read-only to your XProtect system and retrieves motion events and camera configuration only.
4. Everything is saved locally, for you to inspect first CSV files and a local dashboard are written next to the tool. Open them, review them; nothing leaves your machine automatically.
5. You decide what to share, and when Only after you're satisfied, you send the output folder to us. We never pull data from your system directly.
