Which XProtect VMS version is included in the unit?

Milestone Husky X series NVRs are preloaded with Milestone XProtect Advanced VMS, which means that they can be used with the following XProtect VMS variants: Express+, Professional+, Expert and Corporate, where required licenses are obtained separately. Please note that with Husky X2, the license is not tied to the unit – so a simple license change or upgrade will suffice whenever you want to scale up.

Do I need to re-install the XProtect VMS if I want to upgrade from one XProtect product version to another, i.e. moving from XProtect Professional+ to XProtect Expert?

No, you just need to replace the license (SLC), which can be made in operation and preserved in the system configuration and video recordings.

Can the Milestone Husky X2 unit be used as a recording server in an existing XProtect VMS system?

Yes, it can. You can select a specific startup mode in the Husky Assistant, which helps you download the right VMS version from your existing XProtect VMS system. When you use the Milestone Husky X2 unit as a recording server, it does not require any dedicated licenses. Instead, the unit will draw upon the overall licenses in the existing XProtect VMS system.

Can I use the Milestone Husky X2 for local viewing?

Yes, you can. You can connect displays to the unit’s HDMI and DVI ports and view recorded video when you run the XProtect Smart Client. Please note that local viewing consumes system resources, which will reduce the overall performance of the unit.

Which operating system does the unit use?

The Milestone Husky X2 unit comes with Microsoft Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Semi Annual Channel update enabled.

Will I receive updates to my Windows 10 OS?

Yes, you will receive updates in accordance with Microsoft’s support policy.

Mounting and Accessories

Can the unit be rack mounted?

Yes, the unit is prepared to be mounted in a rack. The Milestone Husky X2 should always be placed on a shelf or use rails to support the chassis. The Husky X2 unit works with standard rack rails – but these are not included in the package. Please refer to the Getting Started Guide for detailed instructions on how to correctly mount the unit.

Milestone does not accept any responsibility for units damaged due to incorrect mounting.

Are the hard drives already mounted into the unit?

No, they are not. If you ordered the unit with hard drives, slide each of the trays as far as you can into the hard drive bays located on the front of your unit. Press the spring-loaded front of the tray to close it. If you ordered the unit without hard drives, make sure that your hard drives are compatible with your unit. Follow the Getting Started Guide for detailed instructions.

Which accessories are included?

The Milestone Husky X2 unit is shipped with power cords only. The unit does not include a keyboard, mouse or rack mounting equipment.

Storage

Which Hard Disk Drives can be used with Milestone Husky X2?

The Milestone Husky ™ NVR X series Approved Storage Drives lists the HDD that have been verified with the Milestone Husky X2 unit. Milestone only guarantees the operation of the Milestone Husky NVR when tested and validated storage drives are used. If other types or sizes of storage drives are used, Milestone cannot guarantee the performance of the Milestone Husky NVR unit.

Does the Husky X2 comes in the box with the 2 HDDs already mounted?

Yes, the 2 HDDs are delivered already mounted on the trays. However, they are not readily inserted into the unit – so you will need to insert them by sliding and locking them. Follow the Getting Started Guide  for detailed instructions on setting up the unit.

Can I purchase my own HDD?

Yes, you can, if you use HDD listed in the Milestone Husky ™ NVR X series Approved Storage Drives If you want to source the HDDs yourself, you need to order and use the disk trays with the Milestone Husky X2 unit.

 

Can I purchase additional HDD for my Milestone Husky X2 unit at a later stage, when I need additional HDDs?

No, you can only purchase HDD for your Milestone Husky X2 together with the purchase of the actual unit. Milestone does not sell HDD separately. If you need replacement disks, Milestone recommends sourcing these via other channels. Please note that only HDD listed in the Milestone Husky ™ NVR X series Approved Storage Drives shall be used.

Can I combine HDD sizes?

Yes, you can. Since the Husky X2 has no RAID you can combine e.g. 2TB and 4TB. However, if you purchase HDDs from Milestone, these are sold as 2-pack with HDDs of the same size.

Do I need to deploy both disk bays?

Yes, you do. The Husky Assistant configures the storage automatically, and it is a prerequisite that all disk bays are used.

Which kind of warranty coverage comes with the Milestone Husky X2 unit?

All Milestone Husky X series NVRs come with 3 years of limited warranty. For details, please see the  warranty agreement.

Which kind of warranty coverage does the HDDs have?

HDDs purchased from Milestone come with 3 years of limited warranty. For details, please see the  warranty agreement.

Can I purchase Care Plus and Care Premium coverage for my Milestone Husky X2 unit?

No, there are no Care services for the bare Milestone  Husky X2 units. You can however purchase Care plus and Care Premium coverage on the XProtect VMS that you use on your Husky X series NVR.

What do I do if my Milestone Husky X2 unit does not function according to my expectations?

The Hardware and Maintenance Guide provides instructions on how to use the unit and how to conduct an initial fault diagnostic.
