Throughout our 18-year history, we have worked closely with you, our partners. Our open platform has enabled you to expand the scope of your business, leverage other technologies and design flexible, scalable solutions for your customers. This has served us well, taking us to the #1 position in the market. Yet we can’t stand still. To continue to offer relevant solutions to our customers, we must continue to evolve.
What is the next step for our ecosystem?
It’s clear to us that the next step-change will be delivering value through collaboration. Customers will want to combine best-of-breed solutions with an integrated experience, selecting products that are compatible with each other, so that they can build the exact solution that meets their needs. This will require vendors working closer together. This will require that we strengthen our efforts to bring system integrators together with camera manufacturers, hardware technology providers and software developers to create customized solutions. We are in the best position to lead this change and to create an open environment where companies succeed collectively by connecting and collaborating with each other.
In the future, our partners will work with each other, growing their businesses together, in addition to growing their business with us. To reach the next logical stage in the development of our open platform approach, we must change the way we work. We must transform Milestone from a company, to a community.
Why are we doing this?
We want to:
Drive stronger innovation and customer value creation through the community
Enable faster growth for our partners and Milestone
Increase speed of innovation and reduce time to market for Milestone and our partners
How are we doing this?
We are launching several concrete initiatives in 2016 to facilitate the transition from platform to community, including:
We’re involving you in our product roadmap prioritization by creating a new Partner and Customer Advisory Board.
We will start the process of building a marketplace on our website where our Alliance Partners can promote their Milestone-based solutions.
We’re establishing a developer forum to strengthen the developer experience.
We’re strengthening our SDK by enhancing its design and developing better documentation of the API.
We’re introducing co-marketing programs to strengthen commercial collaboration.
What is your role in the community?
Make no mistake about it, what we’re talking about is disruptive change. It will require taking risks, moving out of our respective comfort zones and daring to think and act differently. It will require that we work with each other to define what the open platform community means for our respective businesses. And we will succeed, if we remember that we are stronger together.
Welcome to the Open Platform Community.
