Alarms and Events

Available functionality depends on the system you are using. See the Product comparison chart for more information.

Keep closed alarms for

Specify the number of days for storing alarms with the state Closed in the database. If you set the value to 0, the alarm is deleted after it has been closed.

This value is normally set to a low number to keep the capacity requirements low, but you can define any number up to 99999 days.

Keep all other alarms for

Specify the number of days for storing alarms with the state New, In progress, or On hold. If you set the value to 0, the alarm appears in the system, but will not be stored.

Keep logs for

Specify the number of days for keeping the event server logs. If you keep the logs for longer periods of time, ensure that the machine where the event server is installed has enough disk space.

Enable verbose logging

To keep a more detailed log for event server communication, select the check box. It will be stored for the number of days specified in the Keep logs for field.

Event types

Specify the number of days for storing events in the database. There are two ways of doing this:

  • You can specify the retention time for an entire event group. Event types with the value Follow group will inherit the value of the event group.
  • Even if you set a value for an event group, you can specify the retention time for individual event types.

If the value is 0, the events will not be stored in the database.

Though the External Events group has the types custom events, generic events, and input events, you cannot set the retention time individually for these types.

Important: Alarms often have associated video recordings. While the alarm information itself is stored on the event server, the associated video recordings are fetched from the relevant surveillance system server when users wish to view them. Therefore, if it is vital that you have access to video recordings from all your alarms, make sure that video recordings from relevant cameras are stored on relevant surveillance system servers for at least as long as you intend to keep alarms on the event server.
