SAIMOS LiDAR - 3D sensing for XProtect®

Is perimeter protection a key concern for your customers? If so, have you introduced them to the benefits of 3D LiDAR yet?

Introducing SAIMOS LiDAR

SAIMOS and its system Integrators cater to customers who run critical infrastructures or other installations needing high levels of security.

One of the key benefits of SAIMOS’s light detection and ranging (LiDAR) product is how it features geo-analytics that can be seamlessly integrated with Milestone XProtect®.

The open platform advantage

Like our XProtect video management software (VMS), SAIMOS is an open platform. This allows you to integrate a broad spectrum of sensors including LiDAR and radar, as well as video analytics and geographic information systems (GIS).

It's also a huge advantage that SAIMOS is purely Intel CPU powered, allowing you to forgo expensive GPUs. This significantly reduces server hardware costs.

Let’s picture a scenario

How could a critical infrastructure operator make use of VMS, VA, LiDAR and GIS?

Due to project confidentiality, here we’re constructing a hypothetical customer scenario using Milestone XProtect and SAIMOS LiDAR and Radar.

The challenge:

The customer runs a large port and needs to secure it against intrusion from the water side. Here they can use LiDAR and Radar via the SAIMOS 3D integration. They have requested:

  • Situational awareness

This is provided with the SAIMOS Control Center. It’s a full-fledged Web GIS with a mapping user interface, allowing the operator to see all moving objects and relevant alarms on a real-time map. In addition, objects of interest can be marked on the map for PTZ- and cross-camera tracking.

  • Alarm zone control via the map user interface

This is provided by a functionality allowing you to graphically click an alarm zone to disarm it for a defined period to allow loading/unloading operations for specific vessels.

  • Alarm zone control via an Intercom

SAIMOS allows the crew to embark within a certain period of time without creating a false alarm. This is done by calling a telephone number and typing in a security code.

  • Thermal cameras.

These are used for additional perimeter security using SAIMOS Perimeter.

  • Speed up access control for vehicles

Can be provided by the SAIMOS Vehicle Occupancy Detector — a new product developed by SAIMOS to meet this specific customer request.

  • Additional Business Intelligence

This can be gained by using the LiDAR sensor for multiple purposes to generate information including a seamless heatmap, object counting/tracking, accurate object vicinity identification and historical data storing for analytics.

With its open architecture, rich product portfolio and R&D capabilities, SAIMOS enables operators to achieve all of the above within a Milestone Interconnected environment.

How does SAIMOS LiDAR work?

The SAIMOS Control Center offers enhanced situational awareness by combining XProtect, sensor data, and video analytics with geospatial analytics. 3D LiDAR data lets your customers quickly identify incidents as they occur and trigger alarms if unauthorized people enter restricted areas.

It’s possible to stitch together several LiDAR sensors throughout an area to deliver complete coverage. Operators can detect, track, and classify objects based on the 3D point cloud received from the LiDAR sensors. Furthermore, LiDAR perception algorithms provide anonymized data on detected individuals —without collecting Personal Identifiable Information to satisfy GDPR sensitive environments.

Enjoy the flexibility and lower total cost of ownership

Available on-premise and in the Cloud, SAIMOS integrates seamlessly into Milestone XProtect and Intel OpenVino. It enables great flexibility, advanced vision capabilities, and deep learning inference using CPUs. With no GPU required and easy deployment, configuration, and management, SAIMOS requires less hardware, fewer labor costs and a lower total cost of ownership.
